During my earlier travels, I assembled a collection of “postcards of thought,“ capturing people on 35mm film immersed in contemplation. Suspended in intimate, non-communicable reflection, they seemed unbound by their environment, even when interacting with it. Embedded in the world while looking inwardly, they appeared to me as perfect “strangers,” whose place was always comfortably on the edge of the world: transient, solitary, and remote. These quiet moments of their own, scattered across countries and continents, spoke of what is most welcoming and familiar, hinting at an inner destination where one is wholly alone and yet open to another stranger.
